How To Clean Swig Life Lids, Tumblers, and More

If you’re like us and use your Swigs all day every day, then you know that there’s nothing pretty about seeing stubborn coffee, tea, wine, or other stains on your favorite Insulated Cup or Slider Lid. Everything you need to get stubborn stains and grime out of your Tumblers, Spill-Resistant Slider Lids, and Reusable Straws is within reach or available at your local grocery shop. Let’s walk through the best ways to clean those well-loved Tumblers or Travel Mugs.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR INSULATED SWIG CUPS

If you recently purchased or were gifted one of our Travel Mugs, Water Bottles or Tumblers, read below to learn our care instructions. Coffee, tea, and even smoothies can create nasty, hard to remove stains that can even impact the taste of your drinks. Here are a few ways to make your favorite stainless-steel cup good as new:

To ensure your Swigs have a long life, we always recommend cleaning with a non-abrasive cleaning agent. Dawn Ultra liquid dish soap is always a great universal cleaning agent. Safe for your stainless-steel Water Bottle, Travel Mug or Tumbler, you can easily remove coffee or tea stains when you clean your Swig regularly and promptly after use. Follow the easy steps below to get your stainless-steel sparkling like new! We strongly recommend using rubber gloves when dealing with hot water to prevent burning.

WHEN CLEANING YOUR TRAVEL MUG OR TUMBLER

  • Use warm to hot water in your Swig combined with mild dish soap of choice, we recommend Dawn Ultra dish soap
  • Use a bottle brush or sponge to scrub the inside of your cup or water bottle, removing all stuck-on debris
  • Rinse away the soap with hot water and set to dry upside down on a drying rack
  • Built-in silicone coaster base may be removed from the bottom of the cup for cleaning

CLEANING YOUR SWIG LIDS & RUBBER GASKETS

We know how annoying lingering coffee stains can be; even with immediate aftercare of your Swig some staining may occur over time with regular use. We recommend cleaning your lids daily to prevent bacteria, mold, and other germ buildup; however, staining does not mean your Swig is dirty. If it has been a while since you’ve deep cleaned your Swigs, don’t worry, we have a quick, easy, and effective solution for you! Follow these easy steps below:

  • Carefully disassemble your Swig Lid: take apart your slider lid and gently remove your rubber gasket from the rim of your Swig Lid
  • The size of your bowl will depend on how many pieces you’re cleaning, but let’s start with one slider lid. Place your lid pieces including rubber gaskets in a medium-sized bowl and fill about halfway with warm or hot water
  • Add about ¼ cup of distilled white vinegar and a couple of drops of Dawn dish soap, mix the solution with a toothbrush and gently scrub each piece to remove build-up
  • Optional: for deep staining, let soak for at least 30 mins before scrubbing. Tip - the longer you let soak, the better results you’ll get
  • Let dry, re-assemble, and enjoy!

HOW TO CLEAN SWIG LIFE SLIDER LIDS

We all know how hard it can be to get the residue out of all the nooks and crannies of our slider lids - especially when they are spill-resistant like ours. The rubber seal on these kinds of lids can often be a breeding ground for bacteria if not properly cleaned. The good news? They’re built to be taken apart, thoroughly cleaned, and put back together.

First, try deconstructing and cleaning your lid as outlined in this video:

  • Place the lid upside down on a flat, protected surface with slider lid closed
  • Then, using the blunt end of a spoon or other utensil, press firmly down on the slider until it becomes completely detached. You may need to put some extra strength into it the first couple of times!
  • Next, hand wash or place the slider in your dishwasher’s utensil basket
  • For more thorough cleaning, remove the rubber seal from your lid and gently wipe any residue that may still be lingering; replace rubber seal to lid once done
  • Finally, reassemble by placing your lid right side up on a flat surface with a towel, and press the slider firmly back into place until secure

Not into our slider lids? Try our EZ Flow Lids instead! Free of the slider piece and with a slightly larger opening, it might be our most underrated accessory yet 😉

CLEANING YOUR FLIP + SIP & OTHER SWIG BOTTLES

If you’re like us, you take your Swig water bottle everywhere you go. From your busy workday to your afternoon workout session, your Swig is bound to get dirty throughout the day. Here’s how to tackle the clean:

For best results, we recommend using a bottle brush when cleaning your Flip + Sip Bottle to ensure you reach the bottom for a deep clean. When it comes time to getting a deep clean on your stainless-steel water bottles, make sure you’re using hot water so that nothing gets left behind.

  • Pour boiling water into the water bottle
  • Leave to soak overnight (add a drop of your favorite liquid dish soap, if desired)
  • Use your bottle brush + liquid dish soap to scrub the next day and watch it shine!
  • Rinse, reuse, and repeat every day with Swig Life!

CLEANING YOUR REUSABLE STRAWS + MEGA MUG STRAWS

Sippin’ pretty with your matching Swig straws? Make sure you keep them cute with regular cleanings! Reusable straws can be hotbeds for dirt and grime if not properly cleaned. Luckily for you, each pack of Swig Life Reusable Straws or Mega Mug Straws includes 1 cleaning brush so that you can stay healthy and hydrated all year long. While our straws are dishwasher safe, handwashing is recommended for maximum sanitation and to extend the life of your straw’s finish. Please note that our Glitter Straws are not dishwasher safe and should always be handwashed.

  • Simply grab your cleaning brush, get wet with hot water, and add your favorite mild dish soap
  • On either end of your straws, insert your cleaning brush and twist to ensure you’re removing any build up from your drinks
  • For Mega Mug Straws, gently remove the silicone flexi tip from the straw base and soak in warm soapy water before rinsing
  • Rinse each straw thoroughly after brushing them out
  • Set on a clean towel to dry or set inside your utensil cup on your dish drying rack to air dry
  • Never place your Swig straws in the microwave or freezer

CLEANING NATURALLY WITH DISTILLED WHITE VINEGAR

Prefer natural cleaning solutions instead of soap? A powerful, natural, and non-toxic cleaning agent is distilled white vinegar. Vinegar is an incredible cleaning agent for eroding grease, grime, molds, and other bacteria festering inside your insulated travel mug, tumbler, or water bottle. To get started:
